This is an in-person workshop that takes place at Inprint House.
This generative workshop will cover the fundamentals of short story writing and delve into the advantages of writing in the abbreviated form. Participants will read work that is anywhere between 6 and 7,000 words and experiment with writing a wide variety of short fiction to guided prompts. This will be a fun and productive atmosphere of creativity and exchange.
about the instructor
JENNIFER MARITZA MCCAULEY is a writer, poet, and an assistant professor of literature and creative writing at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. She is the author of the cross-genre collection SCAR ON/SCAR OFF, as well as the short story collection, When Trying to Return Home. When Trying to Return Home was an Editors’ Choice from The New York Times, received starred reviews from both Kirkus Reviews and Publishers Weekly, was considered a best book of the month by Kirkus Reviews, Ms. Magazine and The Southern Review of Books and considered one of the “Best Books to Read in 2023” by the Today Show. Awarded fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, Kimbilio, CantoMundo, and the Sundress Academy for the Arts, she holds an MFA from Florida International University and a PhD in creative writing and literature from the University of Missouri.
