Are you an aspiring author with a manuscript in hand? Do you want to make sure your manuscript is ‘clean’ enough to submit to agents, editors, or contests? Are you struggling to give it the final polish it needs? Then join author and writing coach, Caroline Leech, for an interactive intensive weekend workshop that will equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to make your pages shine. Perfect your Manuscript is designed for writers who have already “finished” (ie, drafted and revised) a full-length novel, memoir or collection of shorter pieces, and are now ready to take their work to the next stage.

What You’ll Learn:

During this intensive two-day workshop, Caroline will cover the essential aspects of formatting, copy editing and proofreading, including:

  • Understanding the editing process
  • Formatting
  • Point of view and viewpoint
  • Timeline and chronology
  • Countering crutch words
  • Maintaining consistency/creating a style sheet
  • Dialogue, grammar, and style refinement
  • Self-editing strategies
  • Making peer feedback work for you

Why join this workshop?

Caroline is an experienced author, ghostwriter and editor who has been through the rigors of her own manuscript refinement several times and has worked with dozens of other authors on their books. This will be an interactive and immersive workshop in which you will concentrate on twenty pages of your book, receive personalized feedback, learn from real-life exercises, and enjoy peer collaboration and support. You will not only enhance your writing skills, you will also learn to look at your own work with an editor’s eye. Plus, you’ll leave with a toolkit of resources to guide you as you finalize your manuscript to a professional standard for submission. Inprint will be offering a multi-week Path to Publication course in 2024 and this intensive can serve as a great precursor.

About the instructor

CAROLINE LEECH is a Scottish Texan author, ghostwriter, podcaster and coach. She teaches authors and illustrators to present themselves and their books in public with confidence and professionalism. Caroline’s young adult novels, Wait for Me and In Another Time  are published by HarperCollins. Her debut was a Junior Library Guild Pick 2018 and both books were included in the TXLA Spirit of Texas High School Reading Program 2019. Caroline also edited the photographic book, Welsh National Opera – The First Sixty Years, and is the communications consultant for Austin Opera. Through her business, Caroline Leech Writes…, she serves as a ghostwriter, copywriter, editor and coach. She creates and presents workshops on creative writing craft, social media strategy, and presentation and media skills for individuals, small groups, and organizations. Caroline lives in Houston and has served on the Inprint Advisory Board since 2015.
