For educators, time is of the essence. How do we make use of the small minutes available to us for creativity and reflection? In this course, we will focus on short forms, like the flash essay and the fifty-word story, to see how compression invites innovation.
We will complete generative exercises in class to get us writing and experimenting, using writers such as Sei Shōnagon, Lydia Davis, and Jamaica Kincaid as models. Outside of class, we will focus on revision and drafting from our generative exercises. Together we will workshop our revisions, building community and becoming better readers for one another’s work.
