Since 1980 the Inprint Margarett Root Brown Reading Series has presented more than 400 great writers from 37 countries, including winners of winners of 12 Nobel Prizes, 64 Pulitzer Prizes, 57 National Book Awards, 50 National Book Critics Circle Awards, and 16 Booker Prizes, as well as 19 U. S. Poet Laureates. Every reading in the Inprint Margarett Root Brown Reading Series is a literary adventure led by some of the world’s best writers, who transform words and sentences into great stories and poems—a kind of miracle.  The series remains accessible to all with $5 general admission tickets and free rush tickets for students and seniors citizens. Highlights from 2022/2023

The 2022/2023 Inprint Margarett Root Brown Reading Series presented ten evenings with 11 world-renowned authors, including Abdulrazak Gurnah, Mohsin Hamid, Joy Harjo, Yiyun Li, Ada Limón, Leila Mottley, Maggie O’Farrell, Matthew Salesses, Erika L. Sánchez, Abraham Verghese, and Javier Zamora. In this season, Inprint served 4,250 patrons and public enthusiasm to return to the theatre remained high.

Highlights from 2021/2022

The 2021/2022 Inprint Margarett Root Brown Reading Series presented thirteen of the world’s leading authors, including Hernan Diaz, Anthony Doerr, Rita Dove, Honorée Fanonne Jeffers, Jonathan Franzen, Lauren Groff, Yusef Komunyakaa, Ruth Ozeki, Carl Phillips, Wole Soyinka, Olga Tokarczuk, Tiphanie Yanique, and Alejandro Zambra. During this hybrid season, Inprint served 7,113 people all across the globe.

The 2020/2021 Inprint Margarett Root Brown Reading Series celebrated its 40th anniversary with 12 internationally renowned authors, including Julia Alvarez, Margaret Atwood, Jericho Brown, Yaa Gyasi, Nick Hornby, Kazuo Ishiguro, Lily King, Jhumpa Lahiri, Chang-rae Lee, Sigrid Nunez, Marilynne Robinson, and Viet Thanh Nguyen. During this virtual season, Inprint served 6,128 people all across the globe.

Highlights from 2019/2020

The 2019/2020 Inprint Margarett Root Brown Reading Series presented ten remarkable authors including Reginald Dwayne Betts, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Natalie Diaz, Louise Erdrich, Carolyn Forché, Elizabeth Gilbert, Carmen Maria Machado, Emily St. John Mandel, Colum McCann, and Colson Whitehead. Readings featuring Reginald Dwayne Betts and Natalie Diaz, and Emily St. John Mandel and Colum McCann were both live-streamed virtual events. Overall this season served 6,277, with sold out season tickets and five of five readings were packed.

Smith, in addition to a special event with Mary Karr. Many of the authors read from new books. Close to 6,500 individuals were served by the season, season tickets sold out as did five of the eight readings.

The 2014/2015 Inprint Margarett Root Brown Reading Series featured 11 world-renowned authors, including Michael Cunningham, Geoff Dyer, Deborah Eisenberg, Cristina Henríquez, Kazuo Ishiguro, Marlon James, David Mitchell, Antonya Nelson, Karen Russell, Mary Szybist, and Kevin Young. At the top of their literary careers, these talented writers have won the Pulitzer Prize, National Book Award, Booker Prize, PEN/Faulkner Award, British Book Award, National Book Critics Circle Award, MacArthur “genius” fellowships, and much more. Over 4,500 people attended readings, season tickets hit another all time high, and the season received spectacular media coverage.

The 2013/2014 Inprint Margarett Root Brown Reading Series had a stellar season featuring 12 world-renowned authors, including Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Daniel Alarcón, Robert Boswell, Anne Carson, Edwidge Danticat, Mohsin Hamid, Khaled Hosseini, James McBride, Colum McCann, George Saunders, Elizabeth Strout, and Daniel Woodrell. The series, which took place from August 2013 through April 2014 in downtown Houston, attracted more than 6,500 attendees to packed theaters. Six of the eight readings were sold out events and season subscription sales were at an all time high.
