Newbery Honor Award winner and New York Times bestseller Ann M. Martin appeared as part of the 2017/2018 Cool Brains! Inprint Readings for Young People series on Sunday, January 14, 2018, at Meyerland Performing and Visual Arts Middle School. Ms. Martin read from and talked about her middle grade novel Rain Reign as well as participated in an on-stage conversation with Valerie Koehler of Blue Willow Bookshop. Afterwards, Houston Pets Alive!, which opened a shelter and saved more than 1,800 dogs and cats during Hurricane Harvey and its aftermath, shared dog stories from the storm.
