Inprint is pleased to present a special evening celebrating the publication of Glenn O’Brien’s Intelligence for Dummies and the launch of ZE Books.

Intelligence for Dummies is a carefully curated selection of O’Brien’s most important social commentary and cultural criticism, alongside some of his own favorite pieces. O’Brien collaborated with visual artists, writers, fashion houses, and musicians throughout his almost 50-year career. The book gathers his essays, aphorisms, and tweets to create a portrait of the artist as a cultural bellwether, complemented by artwork and photographs from his collaborators. Intelligence for Dummies is deeply personal aperçu into Patti Smith and Jean-Michel Basquiat’s New York and the culture of money that ensued. It also reveals his deep understanding of America’s political culture.

  • Reception
  • Readings from Glenn O’Brien’s Intelligence for Dummies: Robert Cremins, Lecturer, Honors College, University of Houston, Amber Dermont, Associate Professor of English, Rice University, Rich Levy, Executive Director, Inprint, and Tierney Malone, Artist and Host, Houston Jazz Spotlight
  • The evening will conclude with a screening of Downtown 81, a film written by Glenn O’Brien and starring Jean-Michel Basquiat

ZE Books, founded by Michael Zilkha, creates literary mix-tapes from visionary writers, artists, and musicians. Bridging the personal and public, each book is a life told through writing, art, and photography.
