Discover Your Inner Epic

This playful and inspiring weekend is designed to help educators transform both their classroom experiences and life in Houston into extraordinary forms of expression. By focusing on the powerful technique of the epic simile—an ancient storytelling tool—we’ll explore how to process changes in our surroundings, connect diverse communities, and turn personal experiences into meaningful creative works. This workshop is an invitation to explore the art of making unexpected connections, and enhancing your ability to convey complex ideas and emotions in a variety of genres.

Day One: Exploring & Generating

We’ll begin with an engaging exploration of Homer’s iconic similes, learning how they create bridges between different experiences and perspectives. Through guided writing exercises and mindful observation, teachers will craft their own epic similes with supportive feedback from fellow educators.

Day Two: Crafting & Connecting

Our focus will shift to sharing and refining our creations, with opportunities for discussion, guided writing, and collaborative feedback. By the workshop’s end, teachers will have developed skills in diverse forms of expression, helping them creatively articulate their experiences in meaningful ways.

This workshop provides a supportive and reflective environment where educators can embrace creativity and explore their unique voices. Whether you’re a seasoned writer or new to creative exploration, this weekend is all about discovering new forms of expression and nurturing connections within our community.
