SUMMARY:Teachers-as-Writers: Discovering Narrative in the Everyday 2023-107/Online
DESCRIPTION:This is an online workshop that takes place via Zoom. \n  \n \nThis workshop is tuition-free and only open for K-12 educators. \nStephen King says of writing\, “The scariest moment is always just before you start.” The same is often true for teachers beginning a new school year. When we engage in any new or renewed venture\, we are tasked with embracing both excitement and uncertainty. K-12 educators also contend with the considerable demands of their challenging\, essential work. \nIn this generative narrative workshop for teachers\, we will focus on strategies for sustaining a healthy writing practice during the school year. We will discuss topics such as the writing process\, the symbiosis of teaching and learning\, finding story in our daily lives\, and the elements of narrative craft. Our workshop will prioritize development over critique. Participants will be given prompts\, in-class writing time\, and the space to share and discuss portions of their new drafts. Additionally\, we will read excerpts of published fiction and nonfiction. Some optional readings may be assigned outside of class. Participants will leave the workshop with seeds for future writing projects and the tools to make them grow. \n
