SUMMARY:Spinning Meaningful Stories 2022-308/In-Person
DESCRIPTION:This is an in-person workshop that takes place at Inprint House. \n  \n \nAn Advanced Fiction Workshop \n“Fiction is like a spider’s web”—Virginia Woolf wrote in A Room of One’s Own—“attached ever so slightly perhaps\, but still attached to life at all four corners. Often the attachment is scarcely perceptible.” This six-week workshop invites fiction writers interested in exploring how fiction\, often imperceptibly\, builds meaning and evokes emotion from readers. We will study\, discuss\, and practice a wide array of narrative techniques in the short story form\, all of which contribute to a story’s power and the learnings from which can be applied to pieces of any length. Each week\, participants will read a story for discussion\, hear a short craft talk\, and draft a new section of an original short story. As a laboratory for your own writing and thinking\, this workshop will also be adaptable to the particular interests and concerns of its participants. \nAnyone is welcome to register for this workshop\, although those who have had some exposure to fiction writing will benefit the most from this class\, including those who have taken a previous fiction workshop\, have dabbled in fiction writing on their own\, or have been published. \n
