Reception begins at 6:30 pm\, reading starts at 7 pm.  \nDonald Barthelme’s influence was vitally important to the creation of the Houston literary community. An influential faculty member at the University of Houston Creative Writing Program in its early years\, he attracted many great faculty members and students to Houston and was instrumental in launching the Houston Reading Series (which later became the Inprint Margarett Root Brown Reading Series). He also worked closely with Inprint founders to help chart Inprint’s future course. \nSoon after Don died in 1989\, Inprint established the juried Donald Barthelme Prizes in fiction\, poetry\, and creative nonfiction\, which Inprint has awarded continuously for 25 years\, providing more than $300\,000 to support some of the nation’s top emerging writers. Inprint’s prizes\, fellowships\, and employment of graduate students\, which totals more than $4 million to date\, is\, in part\, a tribute to Don’s legacy\, and has had a meaningful impact on the local and national literary scene. \nIn celebration of more than 25 years of the Inprint Barthelme Prizes\, Inprint brought together Catastrophic Theatre and Brazos Bookstore for a public reading of an excerpt of Barthelme’s stage adaptation of Snow White\, his first novel. Actors from Catastrophic Theatre will read an excerpt from Snow White followed by an audience Q & A. In April 2017\, Catastrophic Theatre will present the world premier of the theatrical presentation of Snow White directed by Greg Dean\, click here for details. \n URL: LOCATION:Brazos Bookstore\, 2421 Bissonnet Street\, Houston\, TX\, 77006\, United States ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg: END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
