This generative writing workshop explores the secret inner workings of poetry and the poetic psyche through the power of voice and power of place. We will engage in close readings of contemporary poets and talk about strategies employed. Workshop participants will write poems based on prompts and particular strategies discussed. Poems will be shared and discussed.

About the instructor
MONG-LAN, former Stegner Fellow at Stanford University and a Fulbright Scholar, has published seven books of poetry & artwork and three chapbooks, and has won prizes such as the Juniper Prize, the Pushcart Prize, and the Great Lakes Colleges Association’s New Writers Awards, among others. Frequently anthologized nationally and internationally, including in Best American Poetry and in various Norton anthologies, she has finished a novel, with an excerpt in North American Review. Also a visual artist, dancer, and musician, she left her native Viet Nam on the last day of the evacuation of Sai Gon.
