A Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets\, she has received the Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize and has been nominated for the National Book Award. Joyce Carol Oates writes that Ostriker is “one of those brilliantly provocative and imaginatively gifted contemporaries whose iconoclastic expression\, whether in prose or poetry\, is essential to our understanding of our American selves.” She appeared in the Inprint Margarett Root Brown Reading Series with Major Jackson in February 2011; click here to watch a video of the reading. \nDescription of the talk: “The Poetry of the City: As the world grows increasingly urban\, so does the rough magic of poetry.  Beginning with the almost-incredible story of a poem that changed the meaning of America\, Ostriker will comment on her current project—the poetry of the city—in her own work and the work of others\, tracking ‘the hurrying human tides’ of how we live now.” \nThis event is free and open to the public. Audience discussion will follow. \nThis and other events surrounding Alicia Ostriker’s Houston visit are made possible by the Inprint Fund.  \n URL:https://inprinthouston.org/event/poetry-of-the-city-a-talk-by-alicia-ostriker/ LOCATION:Inprint House\, 1520 W Main St\, Houston\, TX\, 77006\, United States ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://inprinthouston.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Ostriker2008.jpg END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
