This is an in-person workshop that takes place at Inprint House.
Generating Fresh Work
“What the poet is called on to clarify is not answers but the existence and nature of questions” –Denise Levertov
This poetry workshop will follow Denise Levertov’s lead by emphasizing generation and growth. Writing is an ongoing process of creation that involves connection, investigation, and reflection. Over the course of this weekend intensive, writers will be invited to generate fresh work, discuss craft, and build community. Writers will be invited to try out new forms such as prose poems, sonnet crowns, or abecedarians, in a workshop environment that is encouraging and judgment-free.
Writers will consider elements of poetic craft such as lineation, sound, and structure. We will read a diverse selection of poets–Ocean Vuong, Natalie Diaz, Tyler Gillespie, Monica Youn, and Jericho Brown, among others–to gather inspiration, insight, and ideas. Ultimately, participants can expect to walk away from this workshop with a varied selection of new pieces that they can continue to workshop and refine. The workshop’s focus is on creation, rather than critique; however, feedback and commentary will be provided. This workshop is open to writers of all levels.
