The aesthetic choices we make say as much about the way we think as they do about a specific subject matter. How then do we write poems that illustrate our unique way of experiencing the world that push the work to its furthest limits? In this poetry workshop we will use writing prompts to craft poems that investigate our use of image, point of view, tension, and self-reflection to expand and deepen the our work. Poems written by contemporary poets who successfully make use of these poetic devices will also be introduced, as well as short essays on the art of writing. By the end of the workshop, through discussion, critique, and writing, we should have at our disposal new and energizing ways to imagine the making of a poem.
