SUMMARY:POETRY 2018-207
DESCRIPTION:In this poetry workshop\, we’ll take the leap from inspiration to drafting an original poem weekly. Class time will be split between discussing contemporary poems\, writing our own poems (based on class prompts)\, and critiquing the work of our peers in writer’s workshop.\nA large portion of each class will be devoted to using the writer’s workshop form in order to give and receive feedback from our peers on our new work. Each week\, we’ll focus on learning more about a specific craft element (image\, narrative\, voice\, etc.) in poetry. For instance\, after reading a prose poem by Brigit Kelly\, you’ll write one of your own in praise of bedazzling or Shipley’s donuts.\nAs a class\, we will also build up our knowledge of poetry terms\, techniques\, and revision processes. A background in poetry isn’t required for the class—a love for language is all that’s needed!\nStudents in the workshop will need to purchase Best American Poetry 2017  for class readings. \n
