The application deadline for this workshop has now passed. Applications are no longer being accepted.
Workshop description: The personal essay is a uniquely liberating and playful form. It’s fun, but as any writer who has tried it knows, it’s not easy. In this advanced workshop, students with writing experience and a developed prose style will have the opportunity to work with a specialist in the genre. In the workshop we’ll do a lot of reading and discussion to get a sense for the personal essay’s parameters. In the weeks before students begin to present essays-in-progress to the workshop, we’ll do in-class exercises to generate beginnings and/or eliminate false starts. Students will sign up to present their essays-in-progress to the workshop. As part of the 10 week sessions, the instructor will schedule private conferences to discuss the evolution of each student’s work and, when relevant, to talk about possible publication.
This workshop is by application only. The application deadline for this workshop was 12 pm (noon) on Monday, July 17, 2017. Applications are no longer being accepted. Applicants will be notified via email on Tuesday, July 25 as to whether they have been accepted into the workshop and will be provided an online link to register and submit payment for the workshop.
