This is an in-person workshop that takes place at Inprint House.

 

“Writer’s block for me is a question I haven’t solved yet,” the Pulitzer-winning novelist Colson Whitehead once said. “Maybe I have to keep writing and come back to that part of the story later. Maybe I have to do some more research. Maybe it’ll come to me in the shower. But eventually I’ll figure it out.”

This weekend intensive workshop will be dedicated to the stories we can’t get over—that short story you can’t seem to finish, or that novel you can’t seem to start—with the specific aim of overcoming whatever prevents your fiction from moving forward. Through a series of short readings, exercises, and discussions, this workshop aims to provide a refreshed sense of narrative possibility and diverse strategies for writing through roadblocks. Come with a story in any form of incompletion, and, together, we’ll find a way to do the impossible: to get it all on the page.

Anyone is welcome to register for this workshop, although those who have attempted to write a story or novel and have encountered “writer’s block” or some sticky issues in drafting are most likely to benefit most from this class.
