DESCRIPTION:Memoirist Stephanie Klein once quipped: “Tell the truth\, or someone will tell it for you.” In this class\, we will plumb the stories already within us\, and discover innovative ways to tell them. Weekly in-class exercises will encourage honest risk-taking. We’ll consider drafting and revision\, and discuss different strategies for getting your work into the hands of a wider readership. Throughout the course\, we’ll look at various masters of the craft\, reading seminal works by contemporary authors like Eula Biss\, Sherman Alexie\, Mary Karr\, and David Sedaris. The most important texts for the course will be the work of students\, which will be read with compassion as well as constructive critique. \n \n
