For the past two months participants in the Summer 2016 Inprint Memoir Writers Workshop led by Erika Jo Brown–aspiring writers of varied backgrounds from throughout the greater Houston area– have examined the craft of this rigorous and exploratory form. They’ve considered narrative arc, emotional “stakes,” concretizing details, dialogue, point of view, characterization, structure and form, research, beginnings and endings, and other creative strategies. And now, they will present the fruits of their labors with original and diverse compositions. Special thanks to Brazos Bookstore for hosting this reading. 

ERIKA JO BROWN is the author of the poetry collection I’m Your Huckleberry (Brooklyn Arts Press, 2014). She’s a graduate of Cornell University and the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. She’s currently a PhD candidate at the UH Creative Writing Program, where she serves as a poetry editor, Unsung Masters editor, and reading series co-curator for Gulf Coast. She was awarded an Inprint C. Glenn Cambor/M. D. Anderson Fellowship.
