Mr. Alexander will make a presentation about his new novel Rebound\, a follow up to his Newbery Medal-winning The Crossover. After the presentation\, he will take questions from the audience\, followed by a book sale and signing*\, giving fans a chance to visit with him. Books will be available for sale at the event through Blue Willow Bookshop. \nKwame Alexander is a poet\, educator\, and the New York Times bestselling author of 25 books\, including Rebound\, the follow-up to his Newbery Medal-winning middle grade novel The Crosssover. Kwame writes for children of all ages. Some of his other works include The Playbook: 52 Rules to Help You Aim\, Shoot\, and Score in this Game of Life\, and the novels Solo and Booked. A regular contributor to NPR’s Morning Edition\, Kwame is the recipient of many awards\, including The Coretta Scott King Author Honor\, The Lee Bennett Hopkins Poetry Prize\, and the 2017 inaugural Pat Conroy Legacy Award. He believes that poetry can change the world\, and he uses it to inspire and empower young people around. He’s led cultural exchange delegations to Brazil\, Italy\, Singapore\, and Ghana\, where he is training teachers and building a library and health clinic as a part of LEAP for Ghana\, an international literacy program he co-founded. The 2018 NEA Read Across America Ambassador\, Kwame is also the host/producer of “Bookish\,” a literary talk show. \nKwame Alexander took the literary world by storm with his Newbery Medal-winning The Crossover\, a sports novel written in verse. The Washington Post says “right from the start… The Crossover looks\, sounds\, and even feels different.” The New York Times calls Alexander’s work irresistible and writes that he “…takes great delight in borrowing the energy of rap and hip-hop to translate the game’s heat\, speed and joy of motion to the page.” In Rebound\, before he is Chuck “Da Man” Bell\, Charlie is a kid who dreams of basketball glory. In his mind he can steal\, jump\, dunk\, and make the crowd go wild just like a pro-baller. But when tragedy strikes\, Charlie can’t help but make all the wrong moves. Will a series of missteps keep him benched\, or can he learn how to rebound in the follow-up to Alexander’s slam dunk novel\, The Crossover? Seven poems are illustrated by Emmy-winning artist and co-creator of the groundbreaking comic series\, Brotherman\, Dawud Anyabwile. \n*Please note that the book signing will be conducted on a first-come\, first-served basis. Upon entering the theater\, people wishing to have books signed will be given a number\, and the book signing will take place in numerical order after the on-stage presentation. \n URL:https://inprinthouston.org/event/inprint-kwame-alexander-reading/ LOCATION:Meyerland Performing and Visual Arts Middle School\, 10410 Manhattan Drive\, Houston\, TX\, 77096\, United States CATEGORIES:Cool Brains!
