SUMMARY:Inprint Hernan Diaz Reading
DESCRIPTION:Season tickets are on sale here. \nHernan Diaz will read from his new novel Ply\, followed by an on-stage conversation led by author and former Houston Chronicle Book Editor Maggie Galehouse. The evening will conclude with a book sale and signing. The event is presented as part of the 2026/2027 Inprint Margarett Root Brown Reading Series.  \nDescribed by Lauren Groff as a “narrative genius\,” Hernan Diaz is the Pulitzer Prize-winning and bestselling author of the novel Trust\, named one of the New York Times Best 100 Books of the 21st Century and currently being developed as a limited series for HBO. His literary work is celebrated for its genre-bending reinvention of American mythology and its complex exploration of wealth\, capitalism\, and isolation. His first novel\, In the Distance\, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and the PEN/Faulkner Award. His work has been translated into 37 languages. \nAfter rewriting America’s past in his two previous novels\, from 1920s Wall Street to the 19th century western frontier\, Diaz turns to the future with his new novel Ply. A combination of Dickensian odyssey\, family drama\, and scientific thriller\, Ply examines the place of technology in the American imagination. Centuries from now\, the state has been dismantled\, and humans are reinventing social bonds and learning new ways to coexist with nature. Following a childhood defined by loss\, survival\, and found family\, an orphan grows up to become a “pincher\,” someone who steals electricity from the grid to sell it on the black market. “Diaz brilliantly envisions how love\, trust\, and loyalty can remain when freedom and justice have collapsed and makes every page exhilarating and meaningful” (Library Journal\, starred review). \nMaggie Galehouse is a writer and editor in Houston who served as the books editor for the Houston Chronicle for many years. She is a program director at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center\, where her focus is executive communications. Her writing has appeared in The New York Times\, The Boston Globe\, McSweeney’s Internet Tendency\, Garden & Gun magazine and Dwell.com. \n
