The 2021/2022 Inprint Cool Brains! Series proudly presents Newbery Medal winner Erin Entrada Kelly, sharing her new novel Those Kids from Fawn Creek. 

Erin Entrada Kelly is the New York Times bestselling author of seven books for young readers. She received the 2018 Newbery Medal for Hello, Universe, the 2017 APALA Award for The Land of Forgotten Girls, and the 2016 Golden Kite Honor Award for Blackbird Fly, among other honors. She is also the author and illustrator of the Maybe Maybe Marisol Rainey series. Her work has been translated into several languages, and Hello, Universe is currently being adapted by Netflix.

Erin joins us to share her new novel Those Kids from Fawn Creek, a contemporary school story set in small-town Louisiana that explores themes of family, friendships, and staying true to yourself. When Orchid Mason shows up at Fawn Creek Middle School, the other seventh graders don’t know what to think. The twelve of them have been together all their lives, and their school is made up of tightly knit friend groups—the self-proclaimed “God Squad,” the jocks, the outsiders. Who will claim Orchid Mason? Who will save Orchid Mason? Or will Orchid Mason save them?

Before becoming a children’s author, Erin worked as a journalist and magazine editor. Today, she teaches in the MFA programs at Hamline University and Rosemont College. Her short stories have appeared in the Dead Mule School of Southern Literature, Tayo Special Issue, Adroit Journal, Danse Macabre, Every Day Fiction, and Boston Literary Magazine. She grew up in Louisiana, and lives in Delaware.
