The First Fridays Reading Series is the oldest poetry series in Houston and was organized by Robert Clark from 1975-2019. Today\, First Fridays events are curated and hosted by local community members. \nThis month’s featured reader will be Rain. This Texas-raised artist has been writing for as many years as she can remember\, but it’s her commanding stage presence that makes Rain both Beauty and the Beast. She is a published author who has written four books of poetry and short stories\, and she is also the fourth place Women of the World Poetry Slam finalist. From local venues such as the Redefinition Experience at the Ensemble Theatre to states across America\, she has captivated audiences with her performances. In addition to being a nationally known slam poet\, playwright\, and published writer\, Rain is the co-coach for the Gawd Slam Poetry Team (2017-2024) and a four year Word Around Town Touring Artist. Having been declared by The Houston Chronicle as one of Houston’s most talented artists\, Rain is no stranger to receiving honors\, but some of her most notable accolades include the 2016 Eye on Excellence Award\, the Lone Star State Emmys\, and “Artist of the Month” in Dialogue Magazine. Nothing short of amazing\, this multi-genre artist wrote a poem for KHOU Channel 11 Houston which aired during the Super Bowl and the Grammys. Rain is the voice and writer of the Hurricane Harvey relief commercial on Channel 11 and has appeared in KTRK 13 News commercials as well. She is the proprietor of “RAW EMOTIONS ENTERTAINMENT” and carries just that into her leading role as Skyy Rivers in the poACTry stage play\, 48. Rain lives for art but sites a strong education as one of life’s most important tools. She channels this belief into both her job as a teaching artist at WITS and the Alley Theatre and her own education as a graduate of Communications at University of Houston. \nFor more information about the First Fridays Reading Series\, click here. To join the First Fridays Facebook group\, click here. \n URL:https://inprinthouston.org/event/first-fridays-presents-rain/ LOCATION:Inprint House\, 1520 W Main St\, Houston\, TX\, 77006\, United States CATEGORIES:First Fridays ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://inprinthouston.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/FF-Rain-600x400-1.jpg END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
