Inprint is proud to serve as a host for the First Friday Poetry Reading Series. The First Friday Series is the oldest poetry series in Houston and has been held monthly on the first Friday of each month since 1975. The series is coordinated and curated by Robert Clark. Each reading begins with a featured poet, followed by an open mic. On January 4, 2019, First Friday presents Outspoken Bean.

Winner of numerous awards and grants, including the Houston Mayor’s Artist in Residence, a performance poet, the project coordinator for Writers in the Schools’ Performance Program, lead coach and mentor for the Meta-4 Houston teen slam poetry team. A Texas Poet Laureate nominee, Bean has performed and led workshops everywhere from Trinidad to Miami to New York City, including “Inside Out” in Detroit, “Youth Speaks” in San Francisco, and “Word Speak” in Miami. He is ranked nationally as a slam poet, and produced a multi-disciplinary event “Plus Fest”, supported by a grant from the Idea Fund, administered by the Aurora Picture Show and Project Row Houses, and funded by the Andy Warhol Foundation. He serves as an advisor to the Harris County Department of Education. and recently performed his composition “PLAY” onstage with the Houston Ballet.
