The First Friday Series is the oldest poetry series in Houston and has been held monthly on the first Friday of each month since 1975. The series is coordinated and curated by Robert Clark. Each reading begins with a featured poet\, followed by an open mic. On May 3\, 2019\, First Friday presents Jane Chance. \nFor more information on the First Friday Series click here or visit the group on Facebook here. \nJane Chance\, medievalist scholar\, a Professor Emerita at Rice University\, recipient of NEH and Guggenheim Fellowships and a Bellagio Residency\, has published twenty-five books on medieval mythography\, medieval women and women medievalists\, and on J.R.R. Tolkien. Her books of poems are Only Begetter (2014) and The Middle Ages (2018). Her poems have appeared in numerous anthologies and magazines\, including New Crops From Old Fields: Eight Medievalist Poets\, O Hail Radiant Star: Nine Medievalist Poets\, as well as in Antigonish Review\, Ariel\, Dalhousie Review\, Harbinger Asylum\, Icarus (Trinity College Dublin)\, Ilanot Review\, Kansas Quarterly\, The Literary Review\, Lyric\, New America\, Nimrod\, Poet Lore\, Primavera\, Quartet\, Southern Humanities Review\, Texas Poetry Calendars 2016 and 2018\, Wascana Review\, Red Sky: Poetry on the Global Epidemic of Violence Against Women\, The Enchantment of the Ordinary\, and Feminine Rising; she is a Pushcart nominee.
