DESCRIPTION:Please note that this is an online workshop conducted via Zoom. Participants will be provided information on how to join the online sessions. \nThis workshop is full\, please sign up on the waiting list here so you receive priority registration the next time this class is offered. \nThere is a tendency\, especially among newer writers\, to revert to trusted formulas when telling a story. Consequently\, they craft into being stories that often feel rigid; stories that wear their shape and intensions hard on their sleeves. But the kind of stories that live long after we’re gone are often the ones that balance artistry and thematic heft with some measure of subtlety. How then can we move beyond telling merely efficient stories to telling stories that carry in them that spark of transcendence? Over these six weeks\, we will write new stories and revisit old ones in a bid to answer this question. We will break apart model stories to examine character\, the arc of the story\, setting\, dialogue and everything in-between\, and explore how these elements of craft could come to full realization in a manner that leaves for organic and truly memorable narratives. \n
