DESCRIPTION:Please note that this is an online workshop conducted via Zoom. Participants will be provided information on how to join the online sessions. \nThis workshop is full\, please sign up on the waiting list here so you receive priority registration the next time this class is offered. \nHow do we write stories that not only hook a reader in the first couple of paragraphs\, but capture attention in the first sentence? How do we create characters that do more than just feel real\, but have real breath in their lungs? How do we move beyond a mere point of view\, and inhabit the story itself? How can we take prose\, and let the story come alive with its own unique voice? In this course we will be pumping fiction full of vitamins\, minerals\, and–maybe even–steroids through discussions\, exercises\, workshopping original pieces\, and reading short stories by canonized and emerging authors–such as Benjamin Percy\, Stacey Richter\, Amy Hempel\, Milan Kundera\, and Carmen Maria Machado. \n
