This is an in-person workshop that takes place at Inprint House.

Little Truths: Short Essays and Flash Nonfiction
Curious about the potential of the essay in a compressed form? Then this weekend class focused on the art of the short essay is for you. Learn about micro-essays and flash nonfiction while writing a few pieces of your own in this two-day generative workshop. Read work from writers foundational to this contemporary genre, such as Brian Doyle, Beth Ann Fennelly, and Maggie Nelson. Talk about craft and leave with ideas for refining your pieces (plus a few magazines or journals you can submit to when they’re complete).
On Day 1 of the intensive, we will define flash nonfiction, cover relevant craft concerns, and read work showcasing the form’s possibilities. Then, we’ll write micro-essays of our own through low-stakes, generative activities. Day 2 will focus on generating more words, followed by editing exercises and a modified workshop. Our goal is for everyone to leave with 2-3 micro-essays they love (or at least don’t hate) and a path toward submitting their work for publication.
