SUMMARY:Building a Story: Piece by Piece/In-person 2024-101
DESCRIPTION:Over the next eight weeks\, we will be reading short stories and craft essays that exemplify some of the key elements of story\, including characterization\, plot\, setting\, point of view\, and theme/metaphor. Each week will be dedicated to one of these specific elements and we will look at stories that take varying approaches. There will be weekly writing prompts and in-class exercises to help you generate new material. In this way\, week by week\, you will be able to build a brand-new story or radically revise one already in-progress. Students will leave with an understanding of the fundamental elements required to build a story and will receive peer and instructor feedback on the writing they’ve generated during the course. \n
