SHORT STORY LAB

This workshop is geared toward the literary short story (no genre or novel chapters). Participants should have prior workshop experience.

In this generative workshop for the literary short story, we will identify powerful forms, structures, and techniques used in published short stories, then experiment with these forms to enrich current drafts or spark ideas for new ones. Supplemental essays on language and the writing craft will get participants thinking about their writing in a new way. We will workshop story drafts seeking opportunities for expansion and depth, while analyzing what the work is doing already, where the work is already beautiful. As a bonus, participants can opt in to receive daily writing prompts throughout the course of the workshop that will liven up their sentences and explore new possibilities for their characters.
