Surreal Travel and the Suspension of Time Online 2020-201

Course #2020-201
Thursdays Starting July 2 7:00 pm–8:30 pm running 6 weeks
Cost: $210 Instructor: Torie Ludwin

Please note that this is an online workshop conducted via Zoom. Participants will be provided information on how to join the online sessions once they complete the registration process.

A Reading, Writing, and Travel Class

Take a short visit out of your current confines with a reading/writing/travel online class that complements the unusual times in which we find ourselves: suspended between before and after, immobilized, and wanting to be somewhere other than here.

In each weekly session, we will discuss a story, novella, film, or song relating to travel of unconventional nature. We’ll look at what the writer is doing from conceptual and craft perspectives, and we will finish class with writing prompts to use at leisure until the next session.

Potential pieces to be incorporated into the class may include Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino; the short stories “The Tunnel” by Friedrich Dürrenmatt, “Survivors’ Ball” by Kelly Link, and “Blur” by Carmen Maria Machado; and the film “Last Year in Marienbad” by Alain Resnais.
