In this poetry workshop, students will be given weekly writing assignments designed to sharpen their poetic skills and broaden their imaginative scope. In addition to workshopping poems, we will practice in-class writing and discuss works by Elizabeth Bishop, Geoffrey Nutter, Pablo Neruda, Mary Ruefle, Srikanth Reddy, Robert Hass, Russell Atkins, Frank O’Hara, and others. Please arrive with an open mind and a desire to experiment.



About the instructor

CHRISTOPHER BREAN MURRAY received an MFA in poetry from the University of Michigan and is currently a PhD candidate at the UH Creative Writing Program. His poems have appeared in Forklift Ohio, jubilat, New Ohio Review, North American Review, Pleiades and other journals. He’s the winner of the Inprint Donald Barthelme Prize in Poetry for 2017 and has received awards from the American Festival for the Arts and the Academy of American Poets.
