Writers Workshops

Novel Online 2020-107

Course #2020-107
Thursdays Starting May 7 6:30 pm–8:30 pm running 6 weeks
Cost: $240 Instructor: Theodora Ziolkowski

Please note that this is an online workshop conducted via Zoom. Participants will be provided information on how to join the online sessions.

In this generative online workshop, we will assess the values of the novel as a form and explore techniques drawn from excerpts of a variety of published novels for inspiration for our own. Each class, we will workshop works-in-progress and discuss craft issues that come into play as we complete our books. To investigate ways to enter, complete, and revise our own books, we will interrogate ways to handle the basic elements of story and plot, and what craft techniques from our reading we can use toward the endurance the form affords. How do we not only invite our readers into the worlds of our characters, but entice them into staying on for the duration of our books? Ideally, writers should be prepared to workshop 15-20-page excerpts of their novels-in-progress. They will leave the workshop having shared and received feedback for sample pages, generated new material, and identified strategies to help grow their novels.
