Her debut book\, The Liars’ Club\, which came out in 1995 and stayed on the New York Times bestseller list for over a year\, became a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award and helped launch a revival of the memoir genre. Karr’s memoirs Cherry and Lit followed\, both receiving rave reviews and hitting numerous bestseller lists. Lit\, which according to the Huffington Post “managed to raise the bar higher still on the genre of memoir\,” was also a National Book Award finalist and followed Karr from the end of high school through motherhood\, addiction\, divorce\, and her spiritual journey.\nKarr comes to Houston to share her latest book\, The Art of Memoir\, an examination and celebration of the genre that has brought her so much success.
