SUMMARY:Inprint Memoir Writing Workshop at Hines Center for Spirituality
DESCRIPTION:Poet and cultural critic Wendell Berry writes\, “The significance (and ultimately the quality) of the work we do is determined by our understanding of the story in which we are taking part.” As writers interested in spirituality\, we understand ourselves to be taking part in a story that connects us not only to one another\, but also to God as we understand God\, and to the awe-inspiring and ultimately mysterious world in which we live. Over the course of our eight weeks together we will look at this interconnectedness through the spiritual memoir of writers including Scott Russell Sanders\, Mary Karr\, James Baldwin\, and others. We will focus on the personal essay as form\, a form that seeks to pose rather than answer questions. We will look closely at language\, and work toward developing a spiritual vocabulary that conveys the nuance of our individual experiences\, while connecting us to the shared human experience.\n  \n
