Kevin Kwan, a Singaporean-American novelist described by The Altantic as the “Shakespeare of Status Anxiety,” is author of the trilogy of novels Crazy Rich AsiansChina Rich Girlfriend, and Rich People Problems, which at one point simultaneously occupied #1, #2, and #3 on the New York Times bestseller list. Kwan’s family moved to the Houston area when he was 11, where they ran a Marble Slab Creamery store, and he graduated from Clear Lake High School and the University of Houston-Clear Lake. Kwan earned a BFA in photography from Parsons School of Design, working for Interview Magazine and Martha Stewart Living before establishing his own design firm, serving clients including TED.com, Museum of Modern Art, and The New York Times. In 2018, Kwan was named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People. Of his latest novel, Sex and Vanity, a variation on E. M. Forster’s Room with a View, Kirkus Reviews writes, “While … engineering the timeless love story and continuing our postgraduate education in all the things money can buy, Kwan manages to take a few swipes against snobbery and racism. Nice. This is the only way you’re getting to Capri this year. Why resist?”
